After a number of weeks of showcasing some of the most sought after acts in dance music, here at Mixmag we decided to dip into the London underground for the latest installment of the Mixmag DJ Lab.
For an amazing Mimxag lab, we welcomed the experimental, forward-thinking and deeper sounds of Om Unit, Fracture, Sam Binga and EAN for a live stream directly from the Mixmag offices.
Om Unit
Om Unit has had releases on labels such as Civil Music, Planet Mu, Exit and is also the label boss of Cosmic Bridge. His combination of hip hop, jungle and footwork has made him one of the most original producers to emerge out of the UK in recent years and has lead to widespread support from the likes of Machinedrum and dBridge. Check out his latest remix for V.I.V.E.K here and keep an eye out for his forthcoming ‘Small Victories’ EP on Exit Records.
Fracture
Very much on the same experimental electronica tip as the man above, Fracture combines d’n’b, footwork and juke to maximum effect. As well as releasing on labels such as Exit and Hospital, Fracture also runs his self made Astrophonica label. Forthcoming for Astrophonica is Machinedrum’s amazing ‘Clissold VIP’ which is out on April 1 and is the final part of a 3-part series designed to blend the current footwork and juke aesthetic into drum ‘n’ bass and jungle.
Sam Binga
Is the latest export from Bristol’s thriving underground scene and another footworker who draws upon both drums and bass without necessarily falling into the genre of d’n’b. His ‘Small Victories’ EP on Exit records with Om Unit can be found here and look out for collaborations with Addison Groove and Fracture due for release later this year.
EAN
After coming to Om Unit’s attention through a string of free downloads via his SoundCloud page and EAN is without question one to keep an eye on this year.
