The Lab LDN is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective’s weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous office party. This week we welcome the Local Action roster for a showcase of what the London label has to offer.

Deadboy has been a cult figure on the UK underground since the release of ‘U Cheated’ back in 2009. He pioneered an exciting type of low-end club music in the wake of the dubstep explosion and continues to innovate today, as evidenced on his most recent record for Local Action, ‘White Magick’ (as well as its twin record, ‘Black Magick’). The Londoner is also a killer DJ, blending tracks from across the bass-heavy board and his debut in The Lab has been a long time coming.

Two names making serious waves in grime this year are Finn and Jammz. One is a fearless young producer who makes breakneck tracks and might well have just dropped the tune of 2015 in ‘Iya’ (featuring Faultsz). The other is a fearsome lyricist (and beatmaker) who has made his name by hitting every pirate and internet radio station in London, leading to three spots on Logan Sama’s new FabricLive mix. He’s also turned out one of the tunes of the year in ‘Hit Then Run’. Together these two send sparks flying.

Ziro is a name you’ll know if you’ve gone deep underground in search of barbed-wire bass music, a producer who works in the shadows in order to emit soundsystem-melting tracks. He teams up with The London City Warlord, aka Riko Dan, who’s part of the legendary Roll Deep crew (Wiley, Manga, DJ Karnage et al). Not sure the Voids will be upright after this session.

Rounding out the showcase is Local Action founder Tom Lea. A tireless A&R, he’s uncovered and released cult records such as T. Williams and Terri Walker’s ‘Heartbeat’ and Finn’s ‘Keep Callin’ as well as nurtured raw talents such as DJ Q and Slackk into album-releasing artists. He’s also a very on-point DJ, as evidenced by sets on Rinse, NTS and Radar.
