“The tracks in this mix are selected within two genres: the Chicago House and New Wave genres. Historically the genres of New Wave and House music had fairly clear cut racial identity divisions: house music primarily associated with African Americans, and New Wave being primarily associated with white Americans. Although strict racial rules on what music you listened to were not truly at play in the early 80’s, the two genres would not be played along side of each other until circa 1990. As the tracks cater to that Chicago vibe that is embraced today with more than one genre played throughout the evening, the Chicago way and authenticity of this recording lives, especially for those of us that thrived between black and white in the underground 1980s scenes of Chicago House and New Wave.” – Tevo Howard
